NPR Top 100 sci-fi & fantasy

This list seems really skewed somehow. I don't know if it just not many people voted or just the Gaiman and Sanderson fans were out in force or what's up with that. I'm seeing more women than I expected, but not as many as I'd like.

Bold if you've read, italicize ones you fully intend to read, underline if it's a series you've read part but not all of. I've also occasionally used underlining for books I started but didn't finish, and commented accordingly.

You Know What's Nifty?

Opening Acts. It's a free e-book that has the first chapter of twenty five recently-published science fiction and fantasy novels. The less nifty thing is that I keep buying the damn things (and I had three of them already when I got it). It's a really good way to try new authors.

I saw Captain America tonight. Allow me to say that I'm officially over 3D (actually the only film that used it well was Avatar, and that was a generally shit film anyway); it's blurry and dark and confusing and I do not like it.

I pretty much agree with most of the reviews that I've been seeing in that the casting, dialogue and design were well done, but the film itself wasn't very well put together. I know they were trying to cover a lot of ground, but it had about three too many montages in it, and seemed to be expecting us to know stuff based on comics rather than establishing it in the film. The whole thing kind of lurched along like a newbie driver learning on standard transmission.
