Fanish Stuff
6 May 2006 23:20I caught a few minutes of the Stargate: Atlantis episode "The Gift" this afternoon. There's a scene where Sheppard basically tells Teyla to get off his case and go have a nap, then he walks into the embarkation room and waves his hand above his in a circle to get them to power up the 'gate. I just laughed. i have never noticed that he did that before. It's the same motion we use when working around helicopters to get them to fire up, or when you are working with slings or high lines it means you want them to lift the load higher. I like that they included something like that that a pilot would know (maybe it's more widely used, but I've never run across it anywhere else).
Fic Peeve: I've run into this a lot with characters that have acknowledged less than ideal parents, like Rodney McKay or the Brothers Winchester, authors seem to love dragging out the angst by making the relevant parents physically abusive as well. It's like emotional abuse isn't fracking bad enough, like it doesn't count unless the kids are actually hit/raped/locked in closets. Then again, I've seen a lot of fic where people with perfectly happy childhoods in canon were actually raised by abusive shmucks in fanon (see Blair Sandburg). Anything for drama, I suppose.
Is it just me, or is does every bit of Superman Returns promotional material seem designed to bore any audience to tears? How can they not make that trailer even remotely interesting? It's Superman, for God's sake! I usually like comic book movies, they have to get bad reviews (or have Ben Afflick in them) for me to give them a pass, but this one's going to have to get some serious recommendations to get ten bucks out of me, no matter hot hot Kevin Spacey is with no hair.
Supernatural is currently looking very, very good though not certain for a second season. YAY!
I suppose everyone's heard about Caprica by now. I'm not sure what to think. It sounds like it could be all plotty and interesting, but on the other hand, it would be a prequel, so it's not like we don't know what will happen in the end. They're sort of boxing themselves in there. Also, not nearly as thrilled with RDM or BSG as I used to be. I'll give it a go if they make it, I guess.
I have no shows now. Must read books. -g-
