Summary
When the Hobbits get to the house, they are met by Tom's wife, Goldberry. They all have dinner together and the Hobbits go to bed. In the night, Frodo, Merry and Pippin dream of immediate dangers. The next day, it is raining, Tom spends the day telling them stories about the forest and the life there, then about all the lands of Middle-Earth. When Frodo presses him about who he is, he merely says that he is the Eldest. The Hobbits are unable to tell how long they stay in his house, but one evening, when the rain has stopped, he tells them they should leave the next morning, heading north to avoid the haunted barrow downs.
