muccamukk: Luke with his arms folded. Text: A Free Man of Convictions (Marvel: Man of Convictions)

From [personal profile] settiai (Though I feel it behoves me to point out that the thing about no two snowflakes looking the same is in fact a myth).

More information here, if you haven't heard about this challenge yet. ♥

Day One: In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

So I'm obviously incapable of limiting myself to three things, thus you get five recs from my fic. These are five stories that I felt proud of when I finished and still look back at with a strong sense of satisfaction.

Title: Revise, Rebuild, Repeat [het]
Rating: PG-13
Universe: 3490 (or Rule 63'd Edition of 616/Movie)
Word Count: 6,800
Warnings: (skip) References to torture (happens off page), discussion of sexual violence (doesn't actually happen at all), profanity (totally happens a lot).
Summary: In the wake of the Sentient Armour's attack, Natasha Stark reassesses her priorities and begins to put her life back together. Meanwhile, Steve tries to be helpful.

I picked this up as a pinch hit last time [community profile] cap_ironman ran a reverse bang (which we're doing again this week, for those interested). I was reading a lot of Samuel R. Delany at the time, and well, okay, this isn't Chip Deleny by any stretch, but I think the prose and structure are some of my strongest work. Plus Natasha Stark is an absolute joy to write, and I'd been meaning to write an h/c follow up to the Living Armour arc since I first read it.

Title: Constructs in Progress [het, poly, slash]
Fandom: Marvel Comics (The Avengers)
Spoilers/Warnings: Mature for violence, gore, mature themes and sex.
Number of Words: 30,000
Summary: In the seven territories built out of the ruins of New York City, no one has managed to match Tony Stark as either a technologist or a unicorn rider. But when Tony's secrets come back to haunt him, even Captain Rogers and his mysterious lover might not be able to save him, or the city.

I blame Valtyr. I wrote it for her as an auction fic. It's entirely her fault. I love this world: ALL the characters in the Marvel universe living in a ruined NYC and interacting a little like Italian City States, the mix of magic and technology, the angst. I had fun with PoV on this one too (especially Jericho Drumm), and think I did some interesting things with who I choose to tell what parts of the story with. It is also a whimsical quasi-dramatic action adventure story with an evil wizard, so I feel it's definitive of my style when it comes to long fics.

Title: Three Nights in Manhattan [het, slash]
Fandom: Marvel Comics (Alias/Cage/Heroes for Hire)
Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13 for mature themes. Spoils Alias and various bits of things Danny, Jess and Luke have been in.
Number of Words: 4,200
Summary: With a baby on the way and his relationship with Jessica still uncertain, Luke Cage's life is already more complicated than it's ever been. Then Danny Rand blows through town.

This would be my other style: short fic soaked in silent, nearly-unendurable angst with no real resolution save an equally silent certitude that things can get better. This fic may be my absolute favourite thing I've ever written. I adore the dynamic between Luke and the people he loves, and I really ought to write more about it.

Title: From the Ashes [slash]
Fandom: Reign of Fire
Rating: NC-17 for sex and profanity.
Number of Words: 4,600
Summary: In the end, Quinn still had to deal with a ruined castle, a shattered family, and several very irritating Americans. Somewhat AU.

I wrote this the first year I did yuletide. The other fic I wrote that year was my entry into Marvel comics, and I'm thus hugely fond of that one as well. However, there's something about the dingy, optimistic world, the slow build to the first explicit sex scene I ever wrote, and the poly dynamics, that I just feel turned out perfectly.

Title: Long Way Home [gen]
Fandom: Stargate: Atlantis
Spoilers: This story is set between 202 "The Intruder" and 205 "Condemned." It contains a non-spoiler reference to a character from 415 "Outcast."
Rating: PG
Number of Words: 4,200
Summary: Teyla is trying to figure out exactly where she fits in, and John is there to help her, after a fashion.

This is the only serious Stargate fic I ever wrote. I randomly signed up for a John/Teyla gift exchange one year, and ended up writing it around a piece of fanart someone on my flist had done. It's set pretty early in the show, but there's already this immense unarticulated bond between John and Teyla. I just love their relationship here, and how she gets to be the one with the angst, and he gets to be the one looking after her. I think this is the first time I started playing with alternating PoV, too.

You've written so many things, gosh. I love all the ones I've read, though. Especially the Natasha Stark and the UNICORNS. Think I read the Luke Cage one, too--let me go see...

It's a nice feeling, liking one's own writing. I like a lot of mine (I think if I'm not at least mostly satisfied with it, I don't publish it), but I haven't written very much at all.

(Should probably go retrieve copies of everything from where I've posted it, now that I've a stable laptop again. I bet it would add up, over the years.)

I am so relieved that you like what you've read of my fic, you know. It would be awkward if you hated it. :P

And I should. It would probably help if most of it--including some of my favourite writing--wasn't RPF porn. Um. *sideeyes past self*

I keep meaning to read Constructs In Progrees, it just has the most ridiculously delicious sounding summary. It is on my list!

Haha, I've also read Sea Stars. Oddly, it was a slightly more interesting story than Sea Stats. :D

I actually don't think I did, or at least I can't remember doing so. :( My bad habit of reading and not feedbacking. :( Anyway, it is wonderful and I love it. ♥
