So Marvel's doing a non-relaunch, which means a bunch of stuff got cancelled, there's some new titles, and most creators are moving around. Fortunately for me, it mostly seems to be affecting the big titles, which I don't read anyway because Events. I'm interested in where people end up generally. Still no word on Luke or Tony, really.
Marvel
Uncanny Avengers #1 - THIS IS IT! The greatest era of the Marvel Universe starts here! From the ashes of AvX an all-new, all-different Avengers assemble! Captain America begins his quest to create a sanctioned Avengers unit comprised of Avengers and X-Men, humans and mutants working together – so why is Professor Xavier’s dream more at risk than ever? The first attack of the most loathsome villain in history will quake the Marvel Universe forever! The funeral of one of Marvel’s greatest heroes!
First of the relaunch titles. I'm generally fond of Rick Remender, and I like Cap, Wanda and Rogue, but mostly I don't care? I'm so reluctant to get involved with any of the major titles because they're just going to suck them all into Events or change everything every six months anyway. Also, humans and mutants have been working together since Cap's Kooky Quartet, (and so on). Nothing about this other than the author is interesting me.
Hawkeye #3 - What is the Vagabond Code? Barton and Bishop mean Double the Hawkeye...and Double the trouble.
I think I'll wait for the trade on this one. Looks interesting though.
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #16 - Will Miles become a member of the Ultimates?!
Will he? I'm more interested in what Miles and Steve will get up to when they finally meet.
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #16.1 - The Daily Bugle is on the hunt to find out everything they can about the new Spider-Man. What they discover will surprise them, you…and him!
This looks like kind of a cool .1 issue.
Captain America and Black Widow #638 - Venemma Multiversal has sent Cap and Black Widow on a wild goose chase through countless worlds. Cap and Widow battle corporate-sponsored alien war machines! And that’s not even the strangest thing that happens this issue…!!
I'm really liking this series. It's kind of cracky silver age-style good times. The art's been variable, but this run should be spectacular. I wonder who's up next after Natasha.
Daredevil #19 - The streets of New York run red with blood! Matt’s mind unravels as the Coyote creates chaos!
Oh, dear. Poor Matt. I suppose that was to be expected.
Daredevil: End of Days #1 (of 8) - Revealed at last…how it ends for the Man without Fear! In the near future, investigative reporter Ben Urich has one last story to write – what was Matt Murdock’s the final secret?
This one looks cool. I liked Bendis and Mack on this titles. Will wait for the trade. Mack's art deserves the trade.
Captain Marvel #5 - Carol lives every 99ers dream! Toe-to-toe with some of best pilots in American history! Captain Marvel turned thief?!
Captain Marvel #6 - A battle through time! The shocking conclusion! Guest appearance by the classic Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell! And an All-New Captain Marvel?!
Yay! Carol! I can hardly wait until next week! Don't really care about Mar-vell though.
Astonishing X-Men #55 - Hatchitech weapons start showing up around the globe, and civilians are caught in the crossfire. The team must make a decision…take down Hatchi or save Karma!
Hey, I now at least know what's going on. Mostly though, the wedding issue was great. Amazing Phil Noto cover on this issue too.
DC and Dark Horse
Green Arrow #13 - Green Arrow in China battling zombie warriors! Side by side with the Chinese kung fu genius extraordinaire, Suzie Ming! Ollie comes home to find trouble in the sky over Seattle – trouble that will lead to the “HAWKMAN: WANTED” storyline starting next month in GREEN ARROW and THE SAVAGE HAWKMAN!
Hmmmm.... I think I'll hold off on deciding on this one for a little longer. I'm kind of not really invested though. May trade it for Catwoman, or nothing.
Batwoman #13 - Batwoman and Wonder Woman team up! Batwoman and Wonder Woman team up! (We’re so excited we had to say it twice!)
YES!
Catwoman #13 - New series writer Ann Nocenti takes Catwoman deep under cover! Catwoman is the best thief in the world, but stealing another person is a new challenge! The true origin of Selina Kyle revealed!
I've been liking the interviews about this one, but am not super interested in Catwoman. Can't decide. I feel that DC ought to be rewarded for getting fucking Winnick off the title, at least.
Sword of Sorcery #1 - Amethyst returns as this amazing new series begins! The good news: Amy Winston can transform into Princess Amaya, protector of Gemworld! The bad news: It seems her family wants to kill her! Plus: A backup story featuring the brutality of Beowulf!
Apparently there is a big "they changed it and I don't like it" thing happening from the creators. They took a child hero and turned her into every other teenager or something. Not having read the original, I can't comment, but I do love me some teenaged girl heroes. Will probably get. Pity about the back up.
Demon Knights #13 - Everything’s gone to hell for the Demon Knights – literally! If they can’t escape Lucifer’s clutches, Jason Blood and the rest of the Earth are doomed.
DOOMED, I TELL YOU! So much fun.
Stormwatch #13 - Midnighter and Apollo go AWOL from Stormwatch! The debut of The Demon in the modernday New 52! Will he be the team’s most unpredictable new member? What is the centuries-spanning connection between Stormwatch and Demon Knights?
But they changed it and I don't like it! I'm really having a hard time getting into this one. The new writing feels really clunky, and we never saw Peter and Lucas get together, they just are, and they're so different they're not the same, and I don't really like anyone else except maybe Jenny, and I'd read just for my canon queer couple but they're not even the same people anymore so... idk. May drop.
Saucer Country #8 - A new storyline begins here! Arcadia and her team hit the campaign trail. While she competes to win voters’ hearts and minds, can she use her status as a presidential candidate to gain access to the government’s alien secrets? Don’t miss part one of “The Reticulan Candidate.”
I love this title forever.
Ghost #1 - The enigmatic Ghost, along with paranormal investigators Tommy and Vaughn, takes to the streets of Chicago in search of the crystal-powered machine that first conjured her, hoping to find clues to her mysterious past life. But the machine's original owners have a deadly agenda of their own. Picking up right where Ghost #0 left off, Ghost #1 continues Kelly Sue DeConnick and Phil Noto's reimagining of Dark Horse's greatest heroine!
I would think Liz Sherman would be Dark Horse's greatest heroine, but otherwise, I'm glad this went to mini. DH Presents is kind of a pointless title.
