Sailor Squee!
22 Nov 2004 22:59So this is why they should never include tall ships of any sort in a non-age of sail show (age of sail shows are okay because one has time to adjust).
I'm happily watching my current favourite show. Okay, so my current favourite show is the new version of Battlestar Galactica. Deal with it. Deal with it without fanwarring on my flist. Anyway, it's a very serious show, lots of plots, contraplots, subplots, plots that look like plots that really aren't plots at all, at least you think they aren't then they turn out to be. The acting is excellent all around, and the show generally makes me happy.
Oops, side-tracked…
I'm happily watching my current favourite show, and there was a very serious scene about to happen between two of my favourite characters (who don't get nearly enough screen time together). It had been looming for most of the episode, and I was quite looking forward to it. So here I am sitting, thinking, "This is going to be good, I wonder what they'll do!"
Suddenly, Bam! The bloody scene opened with Adama working on a model ship. It's not just any ship either; it's a second-rate battleship of the line, fully rigged. (Have I mentioned that Adama is one of my favourite characters?) And suddenly, I'm in major squee mode and my brain has skittered off to be with tall shippy things. Instead of paying one damn bit of attention to the very serious scene, I'm wondering whether he built it from scratch or if he's just fixing it after it was damaged in an attack. Does he have more? Does he know how to sail? Did he take his sons sailing? Can I somehow cross the series over with Horatio Hornblower?
Scene? What scene? What did Tyrol say? I really wanted to see that. Oh damn, rewind!
Bam! Um… Commander, Sir? Could you move a bit? I want to count the gunports.
